Went out to my local and favourite butchers and reversing out of a parking space was this old bloke looking rather dapper in a 1927 Lancia Lambda Torpedo Seventh Series.

He just climbed in and she started up straight away. It was the sound of the engine that really got my attention.

It just had that old mechanical start up sound and then fired right up. He just through it into reverse, pulled out and off he went. No fuss or attention seeking, just like it was a Vauxhall Corsa or something.

Yep, you don’t find that sort of thing at many butchers car parks. Lol.

Who needs a VR6, when you can have a Lancia narrow-angle V4?

According to the licence plate it is 2,350cc.

I love old cars in that they did six and a third, two and a third, six and three quarters, etc... litre engines.

I want to end up being a old citizen like that. I’d love to have the Lancia too, but keeping that attitude towards life would probably be enough.

We’ve a few characters like that around here.

Sadly over the years we’ve lost a some.

I’ve had the privilege of knowing and knowing of a few of these people, the world is a poorer place because of it.

Sorry for getting soppy there, just remembered a couple we’ve lost.

Landmark car, IIRC unit body and independent front suspension pioneer.

When I was a kid ~25-30 years ago, there was an older guy in town who regularly commuted in a very unrestored looking Model A Tudor, but this is on a different level of obscurity.

The picture doesn’t do it justice but the bonnet was quite long and the seating area was veeeeeery long indeed.
